Do you regularly set New Year’s Resolutions only to give up weeks later?
If you answered “Yes” then you’re in good company!
According to research, 43% of people abandon their resolutions by the end of January, and 23% quit within the first week.
Only 9% achieve their goals, making success the exception rather than the rule.
In fact, the success rate is so low that Jan. 17 is unofficially coined “Quitters Day.”
Even though the odds are low, January can highlight an opportunity. With the right approach, you can achieve your desires and create success.
Many resolutions fail because they’re either too vague or extreme. Goals like “get healthier” or “save money” don’t include a clear plan.
Without specifics, it’s hard to stay on track.
On the other hand, unrealistic goals, like working out daily or cutting out sugar entirely, can feel overwhelming and lead to burnout.
The key to sticking with resolutions is to create clear, manageable goals.
Start with short, specific goals like:
1) Save $5 a week
2) Walk for 20 minutes, 3 times a week
Or 3) Eat one vegetable at every meal.
Small, consistent steps are easier to manage and achieve. Celebrating each small win builds momentum and becomes inspiration to stay on track.
The biggest challenge, though, is resistance. Resistance is that inner voice saying, “This is too hard” or “You’ll never stick with this.”
It comes from deep-seated habits, fears, or beliefs that keep you stuck in old patterns.
Left unchecked, resistance leads to procrastination and self-doubt, making it nearly impossible to succeed.
When changing a pattern, resistance will show up, so plan for it. Acknowledge setbacks quickly, without judgment, and get back on track.
Find a buddy so you have a partner that shares your journey.
And if you get stuck, I am happy to help with any challenges you may experience.
Together we can eliminate safely so you can achieve the success you deserve.
