Kevin Simons, Owner, America’s Mattress
How did you get into this business?
After moving back to Las Vegas in 2005, I went to Monster.com and the first job I saw was in mattress sales. I had a young family now and needed to get some sort of job right away. I also had a desire to get into some sort of sales. I thought why not go to the interview and see what they had to say?
Instantly, I thought this would be a fun job that I would give a try. I was a bit introverted when it came to talking to new people. I thought this would really help me build this skill and make some money doing so.
After I started in the business, I literally felt like I met my calling.
What do you like best about it?
I get to help people with various problems, such as back problems and sleep problems, and I can make a living doing it.
For the most part, when I find the perfect mattress for people, they are extremely happy, and they will recommend all their friends and family to me. The first month, I helped so many people sleep better.
People would stop back in the store or call and say thank you so much for helping me find the right mattress. I haven’t slept so good in my life.
My back is feeling the best for the first time in years. And the company paid me well to do this.
How long have you lived in Las Vegas and what do you like best about it?
I moved to Las Vegas back in 1997, from a small town in Western New York, Olean, NY.
They have two claims to fame: St. Bonaventure University and CUTCO knives. So, if you heard of either of these, then you know where I grew up.
I was 17 years old and just finished High School. I went to school at UNLV and graduated with my bachelor’s degree in business management in 2001.
I went back to Western New York to attend Niagara University, where I received my MBA in 2003. My father would tease me that I had my Mattress, Bedding and Accessories (MBA) Degree. I then moved back to Las Vegas in 2005 to restart my journey out west.
What should Skye Canyon residents know about your business that can help them decide to call you?
My family and I have lived in Skye Canyon since 2018.
In 2023, after working for another mattress company for 16 years, I had built a business within a business. After discussing with my wife and family, we decided to open our own store called America’s Mattress.
I decided if I was going to do this another 20 years, then why not build something my family can own and operate?
I had created a huge following at my old store, and currently I am on a mission to let them know I am out on my own.
Same great service, same great prices, and with quality mattress- just at a different location. I will always take extra care of my neighbors in the Skye Canyon, Centennial Hills, and Providence areas.
